The Essence/Concept

The area of 1 square unit will be the area that equal to the area of the square with the all sides, 1 square unit length. Finding the areas of different images on the table can be counted as the number of square units that are full or counted as the number of tables that have been created and closed.

Indicators/Purposes

Students are able to identify the areas of square.

Learning Management Process

  1. Pre-Activities (15 minutes)

  • Teacher greets and does an introduction with students.

  • Teacher gives an example such as 5 × 5 square unit.

  • Using the situation.

  • Mick wants to tile his bedroom as the picture shown.

  • Showing the picture of a square with the side length and width 1 square unit on each table, there are some conditions that 1 square unit equals 1 tile sheets.

  • Presenting the picture and then looking out for the answers; the number of tiles that are simultaneously paving.

  2.Training the students (35 minutes)

  • The students are divided into several groups that consist of 5-6 students.

  • Students are working on the exercise of finding the square areas by counting the number of tables.

  3. Summarizing the conception (20 minute)

  • Teacher asks for 2 volunteers from each group in order to explain the exercises.

  • Students and teacher conclude the lesson of the area of ​​1 square unit represents. The square-shaped area at the length and width of 1-unit length per side.

 

 

  • From the exercises, we will get 36 square unit in the area.

  • Counting the table one by one.

  • Counting per row and multiplies of the address table in a row.

  • Bringing the number of rows; two sides from the above picture that equal 6 × 6 = 36 of square unit.

  • Asking the students what they have learned for today.
